UTB/TSC plays a lead role in the educational outreach activities of the GriPhyN project. GriPhyN (which stands for Grid Physics Network) is a collaboration of physicists and information technology researchers from over a dozen universities in the US who plan to implement the first Petabyte-scale computational environment for data intensive science in the 21st century. This integrated research effort provides the coordination for prototype development and tests that will enable four physics experiments to enter a new era of exploration of the fundamental forces of nature and the structure of the universe. These projects are the CMS and ATLAS experiments at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory) and SDSS (Sloan Digital Sky Survey).
UTB/TSC has hired a new tenure-track faculty member, Dr. Manuela Campanelli, to serve as the education/outreach coordinator for GriPhyN. More information about GriPhyN outreach can be found on Dr. Campanelli's GriPhyN outreach page.
